For diverse routing and true resilience
Most network managers recognise that having multiple service providers offers some resiliency, but this only covers problems that happen with the service providers' environment. Issues that arise in the customer communications room, along the ducts servicing the building or at the local exchange will affect all service providers.
RedKite fundamentally changes this. The last mile is connected through the air from the customer premises to a CI-Net access node and routed back to the CI-Net core network infrastructure giving a truly diverse route. From here data can be routed via the Internet (VPN) or, if it is a CI-Net private WAN, routed via the link from the CI-Net network to the customer's on-net destination.
Relatively low set-up costs mean this is not cost prohibitive for any organisation that wishes to reduce the risk presented by the single route and the corresponding single point of failure.
