Don't dismiss the "Cloud"
By Graham McLean CI–Net Managing Director
While there are some positive messages in the media about cost and administrative savings, recent publicity about "the Cloud" has included negative hype about potential security concerns. Unfortunately this negativity may scare away customers who might benefit from the infrastructure and processes that underpin many Cloud offerings.
Of course customers should tread carefully when making big changes in the way they buy and manage IT. But when you dig deeper, you find that many businesses could boost their IT security and resilience by moving into "the Cloud".

Microsoft Exchange delivers savings via "the Cloud"
RVWL has moved to Cloud-based Exchange Online, improving its ability to collaborate with its customers across multiple time zones and locations. The company, which chose Apple OSX computers for reliability and low cost of ownership, had been using a mix of Microsoft and Apple PIM based collaboration tools. But, POP or IMAP email related constraints prevented access to many of the collaboration features needed to interact successfully with customers – effectively putting the two in ‘different worlds’.

Clearly the answer was to use Exchange or Apple OSX Snow Leopard server, but the Total Cost of Ownership for deploying this solution in house was too high. RVWL estimated that the hardware, software, set up and support costs of running its own Microsoft Exchange solution over a three year period would have been between £4600 - £7600. Using Exchange Online via “the Cloud” from CI-Net these costs can be cut by about 50%.

"Free Whitepaper - Always on Connectivity"
Recently, a new approach has made its way into forward-thinking organisations that are discovering how to significantly reduce costs, complexities and downtime risks. This approach is called “Always-on connectivity”, which goes far beyond system redundancy and load balancing.

It encompasses high availability technologies “built in” to network security solutions - eliminating “bolt-on” solutions and added costs typically required to achieve the level of network performance needed in today’s environments. Click on the link below to download a copy of the “Always on Connectivity” whitepaper, written by our partners at Stonesoft.
