Cloud enables collaboration

Increasingly CI-Net is finding that on large projects its clients are working as part of a consortium to deliver part of the entire venture. This is particularly true in the construction industry, where many of our clients need to provide one aspect of a development, or are co-contracted with other(s). However the same is also true of any project where multiple disparate teams need to seamlessly co-operate.

There are a number of key issues that need to be considered on such projects:
  • Presentation of a single interface to the end client – so that they have one access point to all data in an environment that they recognise and trust.
  • Enabling staff, sometimes from competing companies, to work together on the same data, plans and files – ensuring that the most up-to-date version is always available. 
  • Providing quick and secure access to applications from any network-connected location, and from a variety of devices including new PCs, older hardware, and thin clients.
The need to share hundreds of files between all of the different collaborators is driving firms to look for more sophisticated, cloud-based collaboration technology. Client machines access required applications and data from a secure central source, rather than by installing them on their local machine.
